The documentary “The Secret of Nature” (El secreto de la naturaleza), produced by the Chair of Scientific Culture of the UPV/EHU and directed by José Antonio Pérez Ledo, will be shown as part of the 10th anniversary celebrations of the Zientziaren Giltzak association in Ondarroa. This film explores the life and work of Pedro Miguel Etxenike Landiribar, Professor of Condensed Matter Physics at the University of the Basque Country, President of the DIPC, and Honorary President of Jakiunde (the Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters of the Basque Country). This documentary reflects on the importance of science, which Etxenike describes as “sowing a seed for change, giving us hope for a fairer, more humane future. Science is economically decisive, culturally important, and aesthetically beautiful”. This 55-minute documentary presents the audience with Etxenike’s reflections on science, examining what it is and what it consists of, in a personal and intimate tone. José Antonio Pérez Ledo, director of the documentary, describes this as “the tone of a scientist who understands that fascination, surprise and humour are excellent vehicles for conveying ideas. That emotions are the ultimate vessel for heightened reason. This is why, in the interview, Etxenike explains some of his theories, shaped over decades, in a way that is always fascinating, always passionate”.
The screening of the documentary will be followed by a colloquium between the writer and President of Eusko Ikaskuntza Ana Urkiza and Pedro Miguel Etxenike, in which the audience will be able to talk to Etxenike and discuss the ideas that have been raised.
Free admission until full capacity is reached.
