Pedro Miguel Echenique named “Gallico de Oro” 2024

On this occasion, the prize that is awarded every year by the Napardi Gastronomic Society of Pamplona was presented to the President of the Donostia International Physics Center.

Every year, during the San Fermín festival, the historic Napardi Gastronomic Society of Pamplona bestows the honour of “Gallico de Oro” (Golden Cockerel) on a person or institution from Navarra that has excelled in the fields of the arts, science, sport, culture or the humanities.

The “Gallico de Oro” 2024 award went to the President of the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC), Pedro Miguel Echenique Landiribar, a native of Isaba.

The award consists of presenting a golden badge and apron from the society – which dates back to 1953 – together with a scroll bearing the name of the person awarded the title of “Gallico de Oro” by the Council of Napardi.

But there is much more to this award: the day includes watching the running of the bulls, having breakfast in the traditional churro shop in La Mañueta, lunch in Napardi, meeting with officials at Pamplona City Hall and receiving the award before enjoying a formal meal. Finally, the prize-winner leads La Pamplonesa city band alongside the muleteers on their way to the bullring.

“I’ve never felt very ‘cocky’ before, because I’ve have always been too afraid to run with the bulls, now I do”, declared the winner after the ceremony.
